More than just being colourful furniture and sliding doors, the physical learning environment is a potentially transformative tool for excellence and equity in education. Sadly investment in how to use innovative learning environments often lags well behind the investment made in the builds themselves. This course outlines a tried-and-true set of guiding principles to ensure any physical environment—'innovative' or not—works for both teachers and students. Explore how to use acoustic zones, breakout spaces, furniture, walls and display, and co-teaching to ensure all learners thrive. The course includes specific sections on supporting English-language learners, students with sensory needs such as ADHD and ASD as well as trauma-informed approaches.
